King David Playing the Harp by Georges Lallemant joins the collections of the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rennes

The gallery is pleased to announce the recent acquisition by the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rennes of King David Playing the Harp by Georges Lallemant (1575–1636)!

This exceptional painting enriches the still limited body of work by this rare yet essential artist, a leading figure of the Parisian artistic scene during the first third of the seventeenth century. As head of the city's foremost workshop, Georges Lallemant trained some of the most important painters of his generation, including Nicolas Poussin, Philippe de Champaigne, Laurent de La Hyre, and Michel Dorigny.

This acquisition builds on the gallery’s ongoing efforts to rediscover the artist’s work, following The Brawl (c. 1625-1630), the first work by the artist to be acquired by the Musée du Grand Siècle in 2020.

King David Playing the Harp has now joined the permanent collection of the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rennes, where it is displayed alongside two paintings by Quentin Varin, strengthening one of the leading collections of seventeenth-century French painting.
